The Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) is a free Australian Government initiative which supports volunteers to make regular visits to people over 65 who are socially isolated or are at risk of social isolation or loneliness.

CVS provides friendship and companionship to older people by matching them with a volunteer community visitor who will visit regularly and become a friend, thereby improving the quality of life for the older person. Visits can be one on one in aged care homes and/or in the home of someone who is receiving an aged care package.

There is no cost to participants of the Scheme.

YP Community Transport is responsible for :

  • Recruiting volunteer visitors and matching them to clients

  • Ensuring visitors are inducted appropriately and to provide ongoing support

  • Managing the day to day business of the CVS

  • And liaising with aged care service providers and facilities

Anyone whose quality of life could be improved by regular companionship can be referred by:

  • Their aged care facility or package provider

  • A family member

  • A friend

  • Self referral
