Volunteer Profile - June Benbow

Twenty Years of Service

After 20 years volunteering for Yorke Peninsula Community Transport (YPCT) Minlaton’s June Benbow is taking well-earned retirement.

At 82, June typifies a true volunteer, taking on roles in a variety of community organisations over the years, including Guides and National Trust among others.

“My motto is ‘do unto others’,” June said. “I have always liked to contribute to the community and I have found my time with Community Transport to be very rewarding.”

A volunteer driver for two decades, both for Adelaide trips and also locally, June considers it was a great way to spend her spare time.

“I can honestly say I got as much out of volunteering as I put in,” she said. “I enjoyed moving people around and chatting with them. They are always grateful.”

Living in the Minlaton area with husband Don since 1966, June still helps run the family business and with driving in her blood, was also a bus driver for the local Minlaton school bus.

“I encourage anyone to volunteer with YP Community Transport, its challenging but a real buzz. I’m really going to miss it!”
